Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Holmsdale Manor. We have a dedicated sustainability lead, and a detailed sustainability policy. Our aim is to help grow a new generation for whom appreciating nature and reducing use of our precious natural resources is second nature.
As a business, we are constantly striving to be as eco-friendly as possible. For example, we have moved to eco-friendly cleaning products for 2026, which do not contain toxic chemicals. We are using local companies such as "No Frills Refills" to provide these products.
As well as our forest-based sessions, we have an on-site wildlife pond, butterfly gardens and bug hotels, that allow children to experience nature first hand. In the classroom they are also introduced to issues like biodiversity loss and plastic pollution in a sensitive way and encouraged to explore solutions.
We ensure our meals are not only tasty but wherever possible seasonal, plant focused and locally sourced, in order to minimise our ecological footprint. We include ingredients from our on-site organic vegetable and herb gardens, which the children enjoy time in, sowing seeds, caring for the plants and harvesting the produce.
We are working to eliminate use of single use plastics wherever we can, as well as recycling a range of common, and less frequently recycled products.
Our milk is delivered in reusable glass bottles by a traditional milkman. Our latest initiative (February 2026) is a move to organic milk owing to the many environmental and health benefits.
More broadly, we foster a reuse focused culture, including offering a reusable nappy service, and strive to ensure that anything that cannot be reused is recycled. We also constantly working to limit our use of energy, water and paper and that our paper is either recycled or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
